丁酉(鸡)年八月初二

23

When it comes to paragraph 23, I think it is a conclusion of exulting. In the first sentence of this paragraph, the author holds her opinion that exulting is shamelessly shouting their talents or triumphs to the world.

I am interested in the sentence “I am taking a bow and I’d like to hear clapping.” Here, “take a bow” means “stead forward or stand up to receive recognition, applause, and so on”. Usually we will connect ‘take a bow’ with performance. People always take a bow at the end of performance. In this sentence, “I” is not refers to the author. It is a form of metaphor, not really exist. The word “clapping” refers to appreciation. In this situation, the author wants to express the meaning of inviting others’ eyesight or appreciation. In the following sentences, there is a word “stage”. It is also a metaphor; I think it can be associated with the phrase “take a bow”.

At the end of this paragraph, the word “allowed” attracts me. I know it means permit. However, in this paragraph, it implicates another explanation. If we want to be allowed to exulting, we must do two things: first, we should clearly know, when to quit: second, we should clap others’. Because of we are also a part of audience.

This is my understanding of the paragraph 23.
